We’re calling it again – if the stars align and Brice and his team at Curb records nurture and promote ‘Lies’ in the way that it deserves to be nurtured they have an award winning song on their hands right here. When we first heard ‘I Hope You’re Happy Now’ last year we knew it was an award winner too. The first time we heard ‘Girl Crush’, we said the same thing, it happened again when we heard ‘Humble and Kind’. Sitting quietly at track 12 on ‘Hey World’, ‘Lies’ is a nailed on number one hit and front-running contender for the CMA Song of the Year 2021. ‘Lies’, meanwhile, could take that success and run even further. Release that to radio and you’re quids in.

‘…Roses’ is a monster ballad with huge vocals and big, emotional feels as Brice urges his loved ones to remember him but move on. ‘Save the Roses’ sees Brice singing to his friends and family from beyond the grave – yes, you read that right, only in Country music does that happen and that’s one of the reasons we love this genre. There are two songs on this album that are guaranteed, nailed on radio chart toppers. Whilst Brice has clearly decided to ‘Country-up’ his sound a little more on this record, he hasn’t left behind the soulful, reflective side of him that we know and love from songs like ‘Boy’ or ‘I Drive Your Truck’ and this part of ‘Hey World’ is where is future number ones are coming from.

It’s the perfect concert opener, for when those days come back again, with its loud, brash and bombastic sounds and ‘the night is yet young’ vibes. The latter song, particularly, is a 2 minute, Garth Brooks-esque, bar room, middle-fingered romp that actually needs to be read as ‘F You’ rather than it’s stated title! ‘Country Knows’ features guitar picking, steel guitars and Haggard references whilst ‘More Beer’ seems to be designed to be the completion of a trilogy that began with ‘Parking Lot Party’ and was followed up by ‘Drinking Class’. Songs like ‘More Beer’, ‘Good Ole’ Boys’, ‘Country Knows’ and ‘If You’ will delight fans of loud guitars and redneck vibes. “This record,’ he states, ‘is probably, overall, a little more Country, like, straight up, stone-cold Country, that’s my people.’ He’s not wrong there. Brice himself believes that this is, perhaps, the most ‘Country’ sounding album he’s ever made. The amazing thing about ‘Hey World’ is that it’s already spawned two number one hits, in the shape of “I Hope You’re Happy Now’ and ‘One of Them Girls’, before its release!! There are at least three, maybe even more, potential number ones waiting to be discovered amongst the 15 tracks on offer here which will make ‘Hey World’, potentially, the most successful Lee Brice album of all time!įor Brice’s older fans and listeners put off a little by his more soulful, more mature approach on his previous, self-tilted album back in 2017, there is an absolute landslide of goodies to enjoy on ‘Hey World’. It yielded two monster hits, in the shape of ‘Boy’ and ‘Rumour’ but with his new album, ‘Hey World’, Brice is definitely making a conscious effort to channel his older sound, without losing any of the soul or willingness to experiment, as he injects a helluva lot more Country into his newer songs. A self-tilted 2017 album saw him experimenting with his sound a little in an attempt to mature alongside his audience. From the bombast of ‘Parking Lot Party’ through to the emotion of ‘I Drive Your Truck’, Brice has been a major player in this genre we love for over a decade now. A name synonymous with quality, modern Country music.
